Hi there!

Hello! I am Hakiim Jamaluddin, a Senior Lecturer in Statistics & Data Science at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). I recently completed my PhD in Mathematics & Statistics at UNSW Sydney, Australia. During my doctoral studies, I had the privilege of training in the UNSW Statistical Computing lab at the UNSW Data Science Hub (uDASH), where I was deeply grateful to be advised by Professor Scott Sisson and Dr. Boris Beranger.

Beyond academia, I am an avid evening runner, a devoted flat-white enthusiast, and an occasional table-tennis player.

• September
  • Honored to be appointed as a council member of the Institute of Statistics Malaysia (ISMy).
  • Grateful to receive the Best Presenter Award at both the 19th National Statistics Seminar (ISMy) and the 33rd National Mathematics Symposium (PERSAMA).
  • Had the privilege of delivering an invited talk at the 2nd National Conference on Data-Driven Modelling and Machine Learning Algorithms (MSORSM).
• August
  • Awarded a UPM research grant (Geran Inisiatif Putra Muda) to support research on Adaptive Composite-Likelihood Symbolic Inference and Optimal Histogram Design for High-Dimensional Data.
  • Enjoyed facilitating a Statistics and Data Science activity session for SERATAS high school students during the INSPEM UPM Math Camp.

  • Invited to deliver a plenary talk and judge at INNOVATHON 2026 on AI Transformation of Reward Culture & Quick-Win Projects.
  • Shared insights during a Data Science Trio-Seminar at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Malaysia.

  • Guest lectured on R for Data Science at Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia.

  • Conducted a Data Analytics workshop at Kolej Dua Belas, UPM, and an AI Automation workshop at Hospital Dalat, Sarawak.
• April
  • Delivered guest lectures on symbolic data analysis and machine learning for healthcare analytics (featuring projects from Malaysia and Singapore) at Universitas Brawijaya, Indonesia.
  • Conducted a workshop on symbolic data analysis via R at the International Summer Program, Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia.

  • Co-authored the book Strategic Analytics in University Governance with Shukor Sanim Mohd Fauzi and Ray Adderley JM Gining.
  • Appointed as a visiting lecturer at the Department of Mathematics, Universitas Brawijaya, Indonesia, and as an external expert reviewer for the BS Health Data Science Programme at Health Services Academy, Pakistan.

  • Serving as the Organising Chair for the International Data Science Challenge (IDSC) 2026, a collaborative effort between UPM and three Indonesian universities (Universitas Airlangga, Universitas Mulawarman, and Universitas Brawijaya).

• December
  • Guest lectured on Health Data Science at the Department of Mathematics, Universitas Mulawarman, Indonesia.
• November
  • Delivered a guest lecture on Machine Learning at the Department of Mathematics, Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia.
• October
  • Honored with a Silver Medal Award at X-CIPTA for collaborative work with Hospital Dalat and UPM.
  • Began my journey as a Senior Lecturer in Statistics & Data Science at UPM.

  • Delivered a talk and received the Best Presenter Award at the 7th ISM International Statistical Conference in Malaysia.
  • Initiated a meaningful collaboration on IT system development for Hospital Dalat, Malaysia.
• July
  • Facilitated a workshop on ShinyR dashboards via LLM at the National Health Technology Assessment (NHTA) 2025 pre-conference workshop.
  • Served as a Research Officer at the School of Mathematics & Statistics, UNSW Sydney, and successfully graduated with my PhD thesis (nominated for the Outstanding Thesis Award), a milestone I am deeply thankful for.
• May
  • Delivered a guest lecture on Data Science at Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia, and initiated an inter-departmental collaboration between UPM and Universitas Airlangga.
• April
  • Represented NAIO AI Talent to discuss and validate the development of the Malaysian AI Literacy Framework and Guidelines, organised by the Ministry of Education (MOE), Malaysia.
• March
  • Appointed as the Education Sector Leader for the AI Talent Working Group at the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO), Ministry of Digital, Malaysia.
• February
  • Joined as a researcher in an AI implementation project at Hospital Kajang, Malaysia.
